History & Success
Celebrating our heritage with an eye to the future.
It all started in the basement of our family home…
After receiving her dance training as a child in Flint Michigan TGS founder Sherry Gold began her professional dance career as a teenager. Throughout the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s she traveled the country as a well-known nightclub entertainer. After working with some of the biggest stars in the business and playing some of the most prestigious clubs of her day Sherry Gold decided to settle down with her new family in Randolph MA. In 1964 with a $100.00 loan and an ad placed in the local newspaper she made the big move, the Gold School of Dance was born in the basement of our family home. With humble plans she envisioned she’d begin small with a few of the neighborhood kids however the positive word of mouth spread throughout the town and she ended her first year with 90 students.
In 1974 the growth continued when she purchased her own free standing building in Brockton, MA. As the years moved forward she continued to grow her business and facilities, finally adding a second floor in 1986 making her building some of the largest dance facilities in New England.
During her 30 years as director the school continued to grow not only in size but also in reputation. Acclaimed for her devotion to the consistent growth and evolution of dance education, Mrs. Gold’s pioneering philosophies solidified the foundation that nearly six decades later still serves an ever growing community of young dance artists.
In 1996, the richness of her legacy was passed to a new generation under the leadership of Gold’s son, Rennie. Raising the bar the “Gold Standard” was born. While maintaining the school’s core values and commitment to quality, Mr. Gold relentlessly pursues ground-breaking new programs that continue to propel the school to the forefront of dance education.
Providing a Gold Standard team of teachers and mentors for our students TGS has become a launching pad for generations of young people to pursue their dreams in countless professions as well as the dance and entertainment world.
Always passing the torch to the next generation these days you’ll find Rennie Gold and many generations of our alumni teaching, choreographing and carrying on the cherished traditions of TGS.
